Region Skåne and Malmö city say yes to electric buses
Yesterday, the final political decisions were taken on comprehensive solutions for switching to electric buses on routes 3 and 7 in Malmö, Sweden. The decisions set in place conditions for Skånetrafiken and Nobina to reach agreement regarding the transition to electric buses.
The public transport board in Region Skåne estimates the annual costs for both of the bus routes at approximately SEK 90 million. Traffic start is scheduled for the autumn of 2018 and covers in total 32 electric buses.
In Malmö, a number of strategies are being pursued in order to meet the ambitious target of fossil fuel-free public transport by 2020. By prioritising resource-efficient buses run on green electricity, gas emissions and noise levels are reduced and it is thereby possible to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of public transport and travel by bus, while at the same time contributing to an improved customer experience and urban environment.
