SL and Nobina develop transport services in Norrtälje and invest in electric buses

During Tuesday’s meeting of the Traffic Committee, the formal political decisions were made for an investment in electric buses in Norrtälje. This decision will enable a complete solution for the electrification of city transport in Norrtälje City. The aim is for the five electric buses to be rolled out in August 2018. The contract is part of the extension* that was approved in the autumn and extends until 2021.

The electric buses are the result of a three-way collaboration between Nobina, SL and Norrtälje Municipality, with a focus on modern, sustainable and competitive public transport. For this, Nobina is offering a complete solution, from project management and charging infrastructure to operational maintenance and traffic management of the four city bus routes.

“The investment is based on healthy finances, hard work, high-level ambitions and close cooperation with our operator, Nobina. The model we have selected for this investment is something I hope will also lay the foundation for further similar measures. Actions speak louder than words. We are not following the trend in the Stockholm region - we are leading it,” says Kristoffer Tamsons (M), County Transport Commissioner.

“For Nobina, it is understandably very gratifying to be able to proceed with the positive collaboration and development that has led to both increased travel and satisfied customers in Norrtälje. Moreover, it is also proof of the strategic knowledge we have accumulated and which enables complete solutions for electric bus operations,” says Jan Bosaeus, CEO Nobina Sweden

Through the investment in electric buses, Nobina hopes to be able to contribute to more efficient and comfortable transports for the more than 2,000 passengers who use the city bus services daily. At the same time, the noise level and local emissions are being reduced, which benefits residents and city planning.

“This corresponds well with the Municipality’s environmental profile and with the ambitions we have in terms of the expansion of the city of Norrtälje. Both Norrtälje Port and Lommarstranden are projects with a clear environmental approach and both areas will be served by electric buses,” says Ulrika Falk (S), Chair of the Municipal Executive Board.
