Nobina awarded bus transport contract in Dalarna
On Tuesday, the Public Transport Authority of Region Dalarna decided to award Nobina the contract for traffic area A, covering the municipalities of Avesta, Gagnef, Hedemora, Leksand, Ludvika, Malung-Sälen, Mora, Orsa, Rättvik, Smedjebacken, Säter, Vansbro and Älvdalen. The agreement will commence in 2028 and run for ten years, encompassing operations with approximately 150 buses.
The contract includes city and regional services as well as a substantial share of school transport. The new operations will be delivered using around 100 brand-new buses, comprising a mix of electric and biodiesel vehicles. In line with the requirements, 100 percent of city services will be electrified, while at least 25 percent of regional services will be operated using electric buses. The contract also includes the transfer of a number of vehicles from the current operator.
The agreement represents a significant step forward—from zero electric buses today to a fleet with a substantial share of electrified vehicles—while also enabling innovative solutions to meet the diverse mobility needs across the region.
"We are both honored and inspired to have been entrusted with this assignment by Region Dalarna and Dalatrafik. Our solution is built on strong partnership and a clear focus on the passenger. We very much look forward to returning to Dalarna and, together, creating safe, seamless and sustainable travel for the people of the region", says Martin Pagrotsky, MD of Nobina Sweden.
The procurement includes a number of designated depots located in the larger towns—Avesta, Hedemora, Ludvika, Vansbro, Malung, Fiskarheden, Leksand, Rättvik, Mora, Grövelsjön, Idre and Venjan—as well as several smaller parking and staging locations.
The agreement will run from 12 June 2028 until June 2038, with no extension options.
The award decision may be appealed until 23 June 2026.
