Nobina Secures Expanded Assignment in Skåne Through Two New Contracts
Nobina has been awarded two new contracts by Skånetrafiken, further strengthening its presence in the Skåne region. The contracts, which commence in December 2026, cover the operation of regional traffic between Malmö and Lund, as well as services on five SkåneExpressen routes, city transport in Eslöv, and rural services in Hörby.
Each contract runs for eight years, with an option for a two-year extension. Under the Malmö–Lund agreement, Nobina will deploy 60 new electric buses, while services in Eslöv, Hörby, and on SkåneExpressen will be operated with an additional 37 buses, comprising a mix of electric and gas-powered vehicles.
Nobina will assume responsibility for regional traffic between Malmö and Lund, currently consisting of five bus routes serving approximately 4.7 million passengers annually. These routes offer direct bus connections between Malmö’s Värnhem and Södervärn areas and the academic hubs in Lund, without the need to transfer to trains. Services will be operated from depots located in both Malmö and Lund using the new fleet of electric buses.
Additionally, Skånetrafiken has awarded Nobina the operation of five SkåneExpressen routes, two urban lines in Eslöv, and three rural lines in Hörby. Together, these services currently carry approximately 1.9 million passengers annually. The SkåneExpressen, Eslöv, and Hörby services will utilize 37 buses, with a fleet primarily composed of gas-powered vehicles, complemented by electric buses.
"We are truly excited and proud to continue our growth journey in Skåne. Being entrusted with these two new contracts allows us to deepen and expand our strong partnership with Skånetrafiken. Together with Skånetrafiken and the local municipalities, we look forward to increasing ridership even further and continuing to offer safe, reliable, and sustainable travel experiences for passengers across the region," says Martin Pagrotsky, CEO of Nobina Sweden
Both contracts will begin in December 2026.
The award decision for the Malmö–Lund regional traffic contract is open for appeal until May 5.
